Discover the world of butterflies in West Lancashire parks this August

Find out more about the beautiful world of butterflies at Coronation Park in Ormskirk and Beacon Country Park.

Both of these West Lancashire parks are hosting Big Butterfly Count events. Both activities are free, and the West Lancashire Borough Council Rangers will tell visitors about these beautiful insects and how you can help them survive and thrive in your garden.

A survey will also be carried out as part of these events and the results will be used as part of a summer-long survey to help the Rangers focus on the management of the park.

The Big Butterfly Count in Coronation Park starts from the bowling pavilion at 1pm on Saturday 22 August. The Beacon Country Park event starts at 1pm at the Ranger Station in Beacon Country Park.

No need to book for the Big Butterfly Count, just come along on the day. Please wear clothing and footwear suitable for the ground and weather conditions. Under-16s require the supervision of an adult aged 18 or over. For more information on West Lancashire Borough Council events please visit events.

Councillor Yvonne Gagen, portfolio holder for Leisure, said: “Come and learn all about beautiful butterflies at these very interesting events at two of our wonderful parks.”

The Rangers have also organised a free Tarleton Circular Walk of approximately seven miles for Bank Holiday Monday 31 August, starting from Tarleton Library, Mark Square, Tarleton at 10am. No need to book in advance, just turn up on the day.
