Still time to take part in consultation over development plans
You can still have your say on planning documents that will guide the development of two major sites where a total of 700 homes will be created.
West Lancashire Borough Council is working on development briefs for Grove Farm, off High Lane, Ormskirk, and land off Firswood Road on the border of Lathom South and Skelmersdale.
Both sites have been allocated for housing in the Council’s new Local Plan, which is the blueprint for how the borough should develop up until 2027 to meet the needs of local people.
The development briefs set out a vision for each site and establish the key principles that should be borne in mind by developers and other interested parties through the development process. They will outline the type and amount of development expected or encouraged by local planning policy, and set out specific issues the Council would wish to see addressed through a planning proposal.
The Council wants to hear your views on the development briefs for these two areas and is organising a public consultation which began on 6 February 2014 and will run until 21 March 2014. So there is still time for you to give your views to help make sure these sites are developed in the best possible way.
Councillor Martin Forshaw, portfolio holder for planning and Development, said: “There is still time for local people to have their say on these documents. It is very important to us at the Council that we hear the views of people living and working in West Lancashire. But we particularly want to hear from those living in the areas where the developments will take place. All views received will be considered and will help to guide the preparation of the final development briefs for these sites.”
The Firswood Road site is expected to accommodate 400 new homes before 2027. A key aim for Council officers in the development brief will be to integrate the development with the surrounding residential area to support community cohesion.
The document will also guide how the development can assist in the delivery of the proposed linear park connecting Ormskirk and Skelmersdale.
Grove Farm is expected to deliver 300 new homes before 2027. The development brief will guide any applicant seeking to develop the site of the opportunities and constraints on the site that they must take account of. These include the management of waste and surface water flows generated by the development and how it can assist in the delivery of the proposed linear park connecting Ormskirk and Burscough.
