Spring is in the air so make sure you come and visit West Lancashire's wonderful parks
Spring is in the air and there are some great free events being organised by West Lancashire Borough Council rangers in local parks and countryside areas in March.
People can really get close to nature at some of these activities and learn new skills.
Councillor David Sudworth, portfolio holder for Leisure, said: “This is a great time of year to visit our local parks and countryside areas. I would encourage people to come along and enjoy a taste of the great outdoors.”
Walkers can discover some of West Lancashire's wonderful countryside on the Halsall circular walk on Sunday 2 March. The walk leaves from the car park by the canal on Summerwood Lane (near the Saracens Head) at 10am. This five-mile walk is likely to be muddy in places so wear suitable footwear and clothing.
March is a great time to get busy in the garden. At the Greenfingers event in Coronation Park, Ormskirk, on Saturday 8 March you can learn some tips while helping to keep this award-winning park looking its best. To take part meet at the parks bowling pavilion at 1pm.
Another Greenfingers event takes place at Stanley Coronation Park, Skelmersdale, on Sunday 9 March at 1pm. Meet at the park’s bowling green to take part.
Then on Saturday 29 March the rangers, in conjunction with South East Lancs Orienteering Club (SELOC) are organising an introduction to orienteering at Beacon Country Park. Meet at the Ranger Station at 10am.

As well as these events the Council’s regular health walks take place every Tuesday and Wednesday. The Burscough Health Walks start from the Richmond Park Bowling Pavilion, off Junction Lane, Burscough every Tuesday at 10am. Ormskirk Health Walks start at the Coronation Park Bowling Pavilion, Ormskirk, every Wednesday at 1pm.
