Find out how we make West Lancashire's parks and countryside areas look so beautiful
Here’s your chance to learn more about the work that goes into looking after West Lancashire’s urban parks.
Borough Council Rangers are hosting two free events called ‘Green Fingers Planting’ where you can pick up some tips for your garden. You can also help plant some beautiful blooms in the parks to bring a vibrant splash of colour to the park whilst helping to attract an array of nectar loving wildlife.
The first event takes place at Stanley Coronation Park, Skelmersdale, on Saturday 7 March. To take part meet at the park’s bowling pavilion at 1pm.
Richmond Park, Burscough, hosts the second activity on Sunday 8 March, starting at 1pm from the park’s bowling pavilion.
Children under 12 will require adult supervision (from someone aged 18 or over) throughout these events. Sturdy footwear will be required and people attending should dress appropriately for the task and for the weather conditions.
The rangers are also looking for help with hedgelaying on Saturday 14 March. Hedgelaying is a traditional form of creating field boundaries which has great benefits for wildlife as it is a sustainable form of management which produces habitat corridors. Meet them at the Ranger Hut at 10am to take part in this free activity. Children under 16 will require adult supervision (from someone aged 18 or over) throughout the events.
For more details on these events please call 01695 570258 or 01695 622794.
Councillor David Sudworth, portfolio holder for Leisure, said: “These are ideal events for people to enjoy and learn new skills while enjoying the great outdoors in springtime. So come along and take part - there'll be something for everyone.”
