Give your views on our draft housing strategy to tackle issues across West Lancashire
Have your say on a draft strategy which aims to tackle housing issues across West Lancashire.
A draft housing strategy has been developed by West Lancashire Borough Council which aims to provide good quality housing that meets people’s changing needs and is located within pleasant, safe and sustainable communities.
The Council is now inviting residents and other interested parties to review the draft as part of a public consultation process which closes on 28 February 2014.
The draft aims to provide an overview of issues such as housing conditions. The needs of vulnerable groups and establishing priorities for action and spending are also part of the document, which sets out the key housing objectives for the authority and its partners.
- Achieving the right supply new homes including maximising affordable housing
- Regenerate and remodel areas of Skelmersdale
- Making the best use of all existing homes
- Encourage well managed and maintained homes across all tenures
- Encourage investment to meet specialist housing requirements
- Deliver the Council’s Sustainable Energy Strategy 2012-2020 – residential and domestic sector objectives
Councillor Owens, portfolio holder for Housing Finance, Regeneration and Estates, said: “Housing is essential for underpinning the quality of people’s lives and supporting economic growth which is why housing issues need to be addressed at a local level but in a planned and strategic way.”
Councillor Hopley, portfolio holder for Landlord Services and Human Resources, added: “We held an initial public and stakeholder consultation from late 2012 to early 2013 to help us establish the right direction and promised that we would go back out to consultation when the draft housing strategy had been produced.
“I would encourage residents and stakeholders to review our strategy and provide feedback to the Council. A detailed action plan will be developed following the consultation period which will reflect and be framed around the final agreed housing delivery objectives."
