Enjoy the great outdoors and find out more about our parks and countryside events
Explore and enjoy some of the great parks and areas of countryside found in West Lancashire this year and get in touch with nature!
Some of the fantastic places that you could visit that are managed by West Lancashire Borough Council include Beacon Country Park, Up Holland and Coronation Park, Ormskirk. Both of these parks have been recognised as some of the best green spaces in the country and have subsequently earned the prestigious Green Flag Award.
In addition, there are many other great places to visit, including Dean Wood, Up Holland; Fairy Glen, off Parbold Hill; Hunters Hill, Hilldale; Ruff Wood, Ormskirk; Richmond Park, Burscough; Stanley Coronation Park, Skelmersdale; and Tawd Valley Park, Skelmersdale. To find more about these parks please visit parks and countryside.
Councillor David Sudworth, portfolio holder for Health and Leisure, said: “We are incredibly lucky to have such wonderful countryside and parks available on our doorstep in West Lancashire. I would encourage everyone to enjoy some time at our upcoming events and in the great outdoors this year.”
Family fun is guaranteed all year round. During 2015 you will be able to join the Rangers on children’s activities, conservation tasks, family fundays and wildlife events such as the Big Garden Birdwatch in Coronation Park, Ormskirk, on Saturday 24 January and Beacon Country Park on Sunday 25 January.
Major events planned for later in the year include the Medieval Weekend at Coronation Park, Ormskirk, on Saturday 16 May and Sunday 17 May, and the Green Fayre at Beacon Country Park on 25 July and 26 July. There are also guided walks and music concerts, so there really is something for everybody. Please come along and join in with the fun.
