Come and enjoy some fantastic activities with the Junior Rangers this summer
The Junior Rangers can enjoy exciting times in the great outdoors during the school summer holidays by taking part in events in parks across West Lancashire.
Youngsters can meet a Viking, and learn survival skills and woodland crafts as well as enjoying arts activities with the West Lancashire Borough Council Rangers.
Councillor David Sudworth, portfolio holder for Leisure, said: “A really exciting programme has been organised for the Junior Rangers this summer. Children who take part in the activities have a great time and learn a lot about nature and wildlife. The activities are free so come and join the Junior Rangers.”
Junior Rangers events are open to children aged between five and 12 and run from 2pm-4pm. Children under eight must be accompanied by an adult. These activities are free but places must be booked in advance.
The first event this summer is on Wednesday 23 July at Stanley Coronation Park in Skelmersdale when children can show off their artistic skills by creating a piece of art.
There are further park art activities at Coronation Park, Ormskirk on Monday 28 July and Richmond Park, Burscough, on Wednesday 30 July when artist Angie Thompson will be working with the children to make a Happy Tree-Troll. The Junior Rangers will forage in the park for leaves, twigs and stones and then use their imagination to make a happy tree troll.
The Animobile Petting Zoo comes to Beacon Country Park on Thursday 7 August and Barn Owl Bill brings his birds to the same park on Thursday 19 August.
Osric the Viking visits Beacon Country Park on Thursday 14 August. He will demonstrate what life was like for Viking children and teach them warrior skills.
Children can test themselves against an obstacle course and take part in races at the Ranger Olympics at Coronation Park, Ormskirk, on Monday 18 August; Stanley Coronation Park, Skelmersdale on Wednesday 20 August; and Richmond Park, Burscough, on Wednesday 27 August.
Other fun activities include helping the rangers improve the habitats for wildlife at Ormskirk’s Coronation Park on Monday 25 August. The park also hosts an orienteering and scavenger hunt event on Monday 11 August.
Booking opens seven days before each event and is essential to avoid disappointment. For more details on events and to book places email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01695 622794.
