Council services affected by industrial action

West Lancashire Borough Council services are likely to be affected on Thursday 10 July due to proposed 24-hour national industrial action.

Some services will not operate on the day of the strike and some offices may be closed to visitors.  However, emergency cover will be maintained. Information will be provided on the Council website at www.westlancs.gov.uk.

Customer Services

Callers to the main contact number (01695 577177) will hear a recorded message advising who to contact in event of an emergency. 

The Council Offices at 52 Derby Street, Ormskirk, will be closed to visitors and the Customer Service Point in the Concourse Shopping Centre, Skelmersdale, will also be closed.

Refuse and recycling collections

There will be no refuse or recycling collections on Thursday 10 July and garden waste (green bin) collections on Friday 11 July will also be affected. Collections will be as follows:

  • Domestic waste (grey bin) collections scheduled for Thursday 10 July will take place instead on Friday 11 July. Residents are asked to put their bins out by 7am on Friday.

 

  • Recycling collections scheduled for Thursday 10 July will not take place and residents are asked not to put their materials out for collection on that day. The next collection will be in accordance with the usual schedule – Thursday 24 July.

 

  • Garden waste (green bin) collections scheduled for Friday 11 July will not take place and residents are asked not to put their green bins out on that day. The next collection will be in accordance with the usual schedule – Friday 25 July.

 

  • Collections of domestic waste (grey bin) and of the  blue bin/box, paper/card and textiles scheduled for Friday 11 July will take place as normal and residents are asked to put these materials out for collection by 7am on Friday.

Bulky household waste: collections will not be affected
Medical waste: collections will not be affected
Trade waste collections: business customers affected will be contacted individually.

Investment Centre, Skelmersdale
The Investment Centre will be open for business as usual.

Housing
A service for emergency housing repairs will be provided. Customers are asked to call 01695 577177.
Sheltered housing schemes will not be affected.

Home Care Link
The Home Care Link service will operate as normal.

Homelessness
The homelessness service will operate as normal.

Environmental health
Environmental health will deal with emergencies only. 

Licensing
The licensing service will not operate.

Pest control
The pest control service will not operate.

Dog warden service
The dog warden service will not be affected.

Sports centres and swimming pools
Nye Bevan Pool, Park Pool, Banks Leisure Centre, and Burscough Sports Centre will be open as usual.

Chapel Gallery, Ormskirk
Chapel Gallery and Hunkie Dorrie Café will be open.

Parks and play areas
Beacon Country Park and Beacon Park Golf Course will be open as usual, along with all other parks and play areas.

Ormskirk Market
Ormskirk Market will not take place.

Planning
A reduced service will be available. 

Building Control
A reduced service will be available.

Customers with enquiries about housing benefit or Council Tax Support are asked to contact the Revenues and Benefits team on 0300 7900380.

Council Tax
Customers with enquiries about their Council Tax account should contact the Council Tax team on 0300 7900381.
