Free parking available for up to four hours on Saturdays at Derby Street Car Park

Shoppers and visitors to Ormskirk can benefit from changes being made to parking arrangements in Ormskirk town centre which come into force on Wednesday 1 July.

Free parking will be available for up to four hours on Saturdays at the car park by the West Lancashire Borough Council offices on Derby Street. But drivers parking there will still need to get a ticket from the pay and display machines to ensure they do not receive a penalty charge notice. On all other days, visitors to the Council offices will still be able to park for up to 30 minutes (maximum) free of charge on this car park. If visitors wish to stay longer they must pay the appropriate parking charge.

Changes are also being made to the town’s short stay car parks. Shoppers and visitors will be able to park for a maximum of four hours Monday-Saturday, whereas currently they can only stay for a maximum of two hours. Drivers will have to pay for the extra parking time. The car parks affected are at Ormskirk Bus Station; Lunesdale (off Moorgate); Market Way (next to Marks and Spencer) and Park Road (at the rear of the former Tesco store). The changes do not apply to the Wheatsheaf Car Park, located by B&M Bargains and Wetherspoons.

Parking will continue to be free all day on all West Lancashire Borough Council car parks in Ormskirk on Sundays and bank holidays.

Councillor John Hodson, portfolio holder for Planning, said: “These changes to parking arrangements will encourage more people to shop and socialise in Ormskirk. This will benefit local businesses and is part of a programme to move Ormskirk on to become even more vibrant.”

Shoppers will still be able to park for free for one hour on the Park Road car park, behind the former Tesco store. This car park is separate from the Two Saints Retail Park Car Park.
