Local artist Suzanne Bradbury sells out of her collection at the Chapel Gallery

Ormskirk artist Suzanne Bradbury has become the first artist to sell all her works at a showcase at the Chapel Gallery.

Suzanne was offered the chance of having a showcase after she exhibited some of her exquisite collages during the Chapel Gallery’s West Lancashire Open Exhibition in July 2013.

The works she displayed were a departure for her, away from her usual abstract paintings to more intimate animal collages, and her distinctive style caught the eye of staff at the West Lancashire Borough Council-run gallery.

Suzanne’s showcase ran alongside the recent Storytellers’ exhibition and art lovers were so impressed with Suzanne’s work that they bought the lot.

The interior design company working with J D Wetherspoon on their new pub in Ormskirk was particularly impressed as staff selected four pieces of her work for the pub.

Suzanne said: “Having my first showcase of my work at Chapel Gallery has been a wonderful experience. Not only because every piece sold, but the positive feedback I have received from the many visitors to the gallery and the gallery staff has really encouraged me to develop and expand my work.

“Having such a busy and vibrant gallery on our doorstep has been a massive benefit not only to me as an artist but to both my children as they were growing up, who over the years thrived at the art club and the many other creative projects that have taken place there.”

Suzanne draws inspiration from the world around us, not least those wild and domestic animals that share our world. As she specialises in collage work each piece is truly individual.

She has regularly attended local artist network meetings facilitated by West Lancashire Borough Council’s Arts Development Team and is currently receiving support and advice in furthering her career.

David Sudworth, portfolio holder for Leisure, said: “Suzanne’s style of work has proved to be very popular and there are many design avenues open to her.”

All artists in West Lancashire and the surrounding areas are welcome to come to the network meetings which are facilitated by Chapel Gallery officers. Guest speakers are often invited to the meetings and people attending can learn about ongoing visual arts developments in the North West and opportunities at the Chapel Gallery. Advice is given on a wide range of topics including how to put an exhibition proposal together and marketing yourself that can help further an artist’s career.
