There will be no provision for the reporting of stray dogs on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, but residents can report strays between those two days on the kennels’ out-of-hours number.
The Council offices at Derby Street, Ormskirk, and in Skelmersdale are closed from 12 noon on Tuesday 24 December 2013 until 9am on Thursday 2 January 2014.
But if anyone needs to report a stray dog they can ring the Council’s contracted kennels, Leigh Dogs and Cats Home, on 07786 118088, where reported stray dogs are taken.
Dave Tilleray, who heads up the Environmental Health Team, said: “We would hope that all dog owners would be responsible enough to keep their dogs in a safe and secure place to keep them from straying. But if anyone sees a stray dog between Christmas and New Year please report them to the kennels.”
The kennels will be available on the following days and times for owners to come and collect their dog if it has been picked up:
Tuesday 24 December: 9am-4pm
Wednesday 25 December: Closed
Thursday 26 December: 9am-12 noon
Friday 27 December: 9am-5.30pm
Saturday 28 December: 9am-5pm
Sunday 29 December: 9am-5pm
Monday 30 December: 9am-5.30pm
Tuesday 31 December: 9am-4pm
Wednesday 1 January 2014: Closed
Our normal out-of-hours collection service for stray dogs that are secured in people’s homes is available until 10pm, with last calls taken at 9pm, Monday to Friday, with the Saturday/Sunday service being until 8pm (last calls at 7pm).
However, this stray dog collection service will be restricted to just the opening hours of the kennels (detailed above) for Christmas Eve, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Eve, with no service at all on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
If you have lost a dog you can contact Leigh Dogs and Cats Home to see if it has been collected.
To register any missing dogs with the Council, or for any other stray-dog related queries, please contact the Environmental Enforcement Team on 01695 577177 from Thursday 2 January 2014.
Dogs that are dangerously out of control in a public place must be referred to the Police.
