West Lancashire’s top apprentices and the employers who invest in apprenticeships had their achievements recognised at the 2014 West Lancashire Challenge Apprenticeship Awards.
More than 70 people from the private, public and community sectors enjoyed the apprenticeship awards business breakfast at Wrightington Hotel and Country Club on Friday April 4 2014.
The event was organised by West Lancashire Borough Council and the West Lancashire Challenge Project, in association with Downtown in Business.
Guest speaker at the ceremony was Max Steinberg CBE, Chief Executive of Liverpool Vision, who explored the opportunities that the forthcoming International Festival for Business can offer to the West Lancashire business community.
The awards were introduced by Victoria Hipkiss, Employer Account Advisor for Lancashire and Cumbria at the National Apprenticeship Service. She spoke about the benefits of apprenticeships to businesses and individuals.
The following awards were presented by Councillor Adrian Owens, West Lancashire Borough Council portfolio holder for Regeneration:
Councillor Owens said: “Congratulations to all the companies and apprentices who won awards at the West Lancashire Challenge Apprenticeship Awards 2014.
“I was delighted with the quality and amount of applications that were received this year and that so many people from such a wide range of businesses came along to make this special event so successful.
“The apprentice winner has demonstrated commitment to her role, exceeded expectations and shown inspirational qualities to succeed at work. The winning employers demonstrated a true commitment to developing their workforce through apprenticeships and proved there are real business benefits to be gained.
“As well as the success of the awards, it was also a great opportunity for people to discuss the benefits of the forthcoming International Festival for Business.”
Bernadette Webster, Director of Taylor’s Farm Shop in Lathom, said: “We have a well-established apprenticeship scheme and were delighted to have it recognised by winning the SME Apprenticeship Employer Award. And, of course, we take enormous pride in Ben Peel’s well deserved Highly Commended Apprentice of the Year Award.”
