West Lancashire parks impress judges to retain their place among the best in the country

Hard-working West Lancashire Borough Council staff and local volunteers have made sure two local parks have kept their places among the best in the country.

Beacon Country Park in Up Holland and Coronation Park in Ormskirk have retained their Green Flag Awards, which shows visitors the parks are well-maintained by West Lancashire Borough Council and have excellent facilities.

At Beacon Country Park the judge met with staff and was given a tour of the site by the Head Ranger. The judge also carried out a thorough assessment of the management plan and the various operational, conservation and amenity features in place. Another judge visited Coronation Park in a ‘secret shopper’ exercise. Both judges were clearly impressed by what they saw.

This is the eighth successive year Beacon Country Park has retained this prestigious status, and the seventh year in a row for Coronation Park.

The Green Flag award scheme, co-ordinated by Keep Britain Tidy, recognises and rewards the best green spaces in the country.

Council staff and local volunteers work hard all year round to ensure the parks are maintained to a high standard and are places that the public will enjoy visiting.

Councillor David Sudworth, portfolio holder for Health and Leisure, said: “Retaining Green Flag status for yet another year is a fantastic achievement.  Receiving such recognition from national experts is a real tribute to hardworking Council staff and local volunteers who do a tremendous job of making our parks such wonderful places to visit.”

Councillor Paul Greenall, portfolio holder for Street Scene, said: “Staff will continue their efforts in providing a great service and making sure our parks look their best. They will be working hard to maintain the high standards necessary to keep these awards and make our parks places that West Lancashire people can be proud of.”
