Still time to take part in the Yew Tree Farm Masterplan consultation

There is still time for you to help guide a document that will support the creation of new homes and jobs and make West Lancashire an even better place to live.

Yew Tree Farm in Burscough has been allocated for development in West Lancashire Borough Council’s Local Plan. The Council is drawing up a Masterplan to ensure Yew Tree Farm develops in the best possible way for Burscough and West Lancashire.

Feedback from a stakeholder group of local residents, businesses, landowners, ward councillors and other interested parties has been used to help develop the Masterplan options.

The council is running a public consultation on the scheme which began on Thursday 6 February and will run until 5pm on Friday 21 March. So you can express your views and help shape the final content of the Masterplan.

Councillor Martin Forshaw, portfolio holder for Planning and Development, said: “New homes and jobs can benefit us all. Everyone in the borough is being given the chance to have their say on how Yew Tree Farm should be developed. But we particularly want to encourage the people of Burscough to take an active part in this process. Yew Tree Farm should be developed in the best possible way, and all views received will be considered and help us prepare the Masterplan.”

The Council’s Local Plan provides planning guidance on how the Borough should progress until 2027 for the benefit of people who live and work here. Under the Local Plan, the Yew Tree Farm site is allocated to deliver new employment land so that jobs can be created, and at least 500 new homes.

The new Yew Tree Farm Masterplan will guide how this is delivered and examine opportunities to create some new and improved facilities including a library, youth/community centre and additional health facilities.

The Council wants to hear your views on all aspects of the document, including how new housing should meet affordable housing needs and those of older people. You can say where you believe employment premises should be placed and whether particular types of employment should be encouraged for the site.

The Masterplan will guide how the development should be laid out and what parts of Yew Tree Farm should be safeguarded from development for future needs. You can have your say on this as well highways and traffic issues, walking and cycling routes and community facilities.

To help people find out more about the scheme exhibitions have been held at Burscough Wharf Arts Centre. These have been well attended and residents were able to ask questions and give their views. All comments were taken on board and will be carried forward to the next stage of the process of drawing up the Masterplan.

Further exhibitions are being held at the same venue on Saturday 1 March, between 10am and 4pm, and Tuesday 4 March, from 2pm to 6.30pm.

You can also read all the Masterplan documents and find questionnaires at our Yew Tree Farm Masterplan page and local libraries, post offices and council offices in the Borough.

Comments can also be sent in by following links from the Yew Tree Farm Masterplan, emailing localplan@westlancs.gov.uk or writing to Planning Policy, West Lancashire Borough Council, 52 Derby Street, Ormskirk, L39 2DF. We cannot accept anonymous comments so please ensure your name and address are supplied.

Once comments from this consultation have been fed into the Masterplan process a further consultation on the updated document will take place in summer 2014. The Masterplan is expected to be completed by autumn 2014.
