There are some fabulous parks and countryside right on your doorstep in West Lancashire so make sure you visit them to enjoy the great outdoors.
Great places to visit which are managed by West Lancashire Borough Council include Coronation Park, Ormskirk, and Beacon Country Park, Up Holland. Both of these have earned the prestigious Green Flag Award, which recognises and rewards the best green spaces in the country.
Other great places to visit include Dean Wood, Up Holland; Fairy Glen, off Parbold Hill; Hunters Hill, Hilldale; Ruff Wood, Ormskirk; Stanley Coronation Park, Skelmersdale; and Tawd Valley Park, Skelmersdale.
The Council has a wide range of fabulous events planned for 2014 which everyone is invited to. These start with the Big Garden Birdwatch on Saturday 25 January, when visitors can meet the park ranger, brush up on their bird identification skills and follow a bird-themed trail.
Councillor David Sudworth, portfolio holder for Health and Leisure, said: “We are lucky to have some wonderful countryside and local parks and the Council is organising some great events again this year. I would encourage everyone to enjoy some time in the great outdoors.”
Our parks offer family fun all year round. During 2014 you will find; guided walks, conservation tasks, children’s activities, music concerts, family fundays such as the Green Fayre on 19 July and 20 July, the Halloween Extravaganza and even a medieval reenactment weekend on 17 May and 18 May. There are exciting events for everybody so come down and join in with the fun!
