Do you want help to get online to search for jobs, to gain computer skills and learn about using the internet? Then come along to the free information day at Digmoor Community Centre on Tuesday 28 January.
West Lancashire Challenge is organising the event between 10am and 2pm and everyone is welcome. There will be free internet and computer demonstrations along with support and training to help you get ahead and give employers the essential computer skills they are looking for. There will also be advice on how to get online at home or when you’re out and about.
And there will be a chance to win some fantastic prizes including an iPad, or a Kindle Fire HD as well as the opportunity to be selected to receive a computer donated by Edge Hill Students’ Union.
Councillor Adrian Owens, portfolio holder for regeneration, said: “Having an understanding of computers and the internet can be of great benefit in our work and daily lives. So if you are looking to learn these skills then the friendly staff at this event will be only too happy to help you.”
Staff from West Lancashire Challenge partners – including West Lancashire CVS and West Lancashire Borough Council along with support from Job Centre Plus – will be there to help people attending.
Representatives from other organisations including Edge Hill Students’ Union, Citizens Advice Bureau, West Lancashire College, National Careers Service, South West Lancashire Independent Community Advice Network (ICAN), Quarry Bank Community Association, Lancashire Adult Learning and Get Online @ Home will also be on hand.
Staff can help you to get an email address and will explain the benefits it can bring. There will be help with CV writing, guidance on how to search online for jobs and a host of other advice. Free refreshments will be provided.
Councillor Val Hopley, portfolio holder for Landlord Services, said: “This will be a great event and I would urge people to come along. As well as helping to support job searches there are also great prizes to be won.”
