Residents warned to stay away from coastal areas due to high tides
High winds and high tides on Friday 3 January will result in waves coming over the top of seafront promenades.
Residents are advised by the Environment Agency and West Lancashire Borough Council to keep away from coastal areas, coastal roads and seafront promenades in areas such as Southport, Lytham and Blackpool due to the risk of being swept out to sea.
The main high tides are expected on Friday 3 January, but similar problems are expected over the weekend.
A man was swept out to sea in Cornwall on New Year’s Eve when he was celebrating with friends on a beach in the county.
