Apply now for free gas heating appliance servicing, repair or replacement
Homeowners in West Lancashire are being offered another opportunity to have their gas heating appliances serviced free of charge to help keep them warm and save money on their gas bills this winter.
West Lancashire Borough Council has received funding from Lancashire County Council’s Public Health Team to offer the West Lancs Winter Warm Scheme for a second year.
People eligible for the scheme can have their gas heating appliances, including gas fires and boilers, serviced and repaired free of charge if necessary. Gas boilers can also be replaced for free – subject to certain conditions – free of charge if they cannot be repaired or if they fall below a certain efficiency rating. The servicing of oil boilers can also be considered under the scheme.
The scheme is available to owner occupiers who are in receipt of certain benefits. They can also qualify if they are on a low income, don’t have a plan that provides servicing and repair, and a member of the household has a medical condition affected by the cold.
Councillor Val Hopley, portfolio holder for Landlord Services, said: “This scheme really could help people feel warmer this winter and I would urge anyone who thinks they might be eligible to apply.”
Tenants cannot apply to the scheme as it is the landlords’ responsibility to maintain or replace any heating appliances including gas boilers.
The scheme will run until 31 March 2014 but funding is limited so residents are encouraged to apply early.
