A children’s mass fly of rainbow kites will be among the exciting attractions at the fabulous free Kite Flying Weekend at Beacon Country Park.
Amazing displays by the Northern Kite Group are planned for the kite field, close to the Carr Lane Car Park, between 10am and 4pm on Saturday 14 June and Sunday 15 June.
Crowds will also enjoy the altitude sprint. Kite group members are given a set time – usually between one and two minutes depending on the wind – to launch a kite and get it as high as possible. Technique is important. It requires three judges to spot the highest kite.
There will also be plenty of animal and bird kites and great displays of Oriental kites.
This great free event for all the family has been organised by the Northern Kite Group in association with West Lancashire Borough Council Rangers. David Tilleray, Assistant Director Community Services, said: “The Kite Flying Weekend is always a great event and I would encourage everyone to come along and enjoy the fantastic displays by the Northern Kite Group.”
Visitors will be able to buy their own kites from a vendor at the park. Although they won’t be able to fly their own kites in the arena where the kite group are doing their displays they can fly them in other parts of the park.
Refreshments will be available on the two days.
