West Lancashire Borough Council is encouraging people to learn how to use the internet during national Get online week.
There are still 11 million people in the UK who don’t have the basic digital skills to make the most of the internet. Get online week is a national campaign running from 13-19 October designed to inspire more people to get online and gain digital skills and see what the internet could do for them.
There are many places across the borough where everyone can get a helping hand to get online whatever their level of skill and confidence.
Councillor Jane Houlgrave, portfolio holder for Landlord Services, said: “The internet is becoming an increasingly important part of our lives, so why not use Get online week to improve your computer skills, or even use one for the first time.”
The West Lancashire Challenge in partnership with Jobcentre Plus, is working to support up to 50 individuals into employment, training or volunteering by providing one-to-one support.
Support will help to improve the individual’s digital skill-set, produce an up-to-date CV and email address, as well as sign up to the West Lancashire Challenge Passport initiative and register on Universal Jobmatch. Individuals will receive 12 hours support over an eight-week period which is funded by the DWP.
