Business leaders in West Lancashire can help guide a major plan that aims to help create new jobs and boost business growth.
West Lancashire Borough Council is working on a wide-ranging West Lancashire Economic Development Strategy and is calling on borough businesses to get involved to help make sure it provides the maximum benefits for everyone.
This 10-year blueprint aims to ensure the borough’s businesses can take full advantage of the opportunities created by initiatives such as Liverpool Superport and from the Local Enterprise Partnerships’ in Liverpool and Lancashire.
It highlights the importance of the Skelmersdale Town Centre Regeneration Project to the whole borough, and improving West Lancashire’s other town centres. The key transport projects which would drive economic growth are also considered.
The strategy looks at improvements that can be made to attract new employers to West Lancashire and help ones already here, such as providing the right mix of employment sites. The importance of ensuring local people are trained and qualified to take job opportunities that become available is also highlighted.
The Council wanted to hear your views on the draft strategy to help us prepare the final document. The public consultation ended on 25 February 2015.
Councillor David Westley, Council Leader and portfolio holder for Regeneration, said: “West Lancashire’s economy is performing well when compared to the rest of the UK and the North West and prospects in the years ahead are good. This strategy aims to ensure the borough’s economy continues to improve in the future which will benefit us all.
“Everyone can have their say as we aim to develop the strategy in the best possible way. But we particularly want to encourage business people to take an active part in this process as they can give us their own special insight.” Companies can find out more about the draft strategy at the free consultation event for businesses and public sector partners at the Best Western Lancashire Manor Hotel, Skelmersdale, on Wednesday 11 February from 8am-10.30am. Speakers will talk about the draft strategy, the West Lancashire Economy Study which helped guide the strategy, and the latest on the Liverpool Superport.
