A recruitment event organised by West Lancashire Borough Council and Job Centre Plus was hailed a great success as 70 per cent of people who attended applied for jobs.
The session brought 14 local employers from a variety of sectors including social care, business administration, and finance to the job centre in Skelmersdale and 195 jobseekers attended.
Businesses who attended the morning said they were very pleased with how it went.
Michael Ennis, Operations Manager for Cordant Security, said: “This was a fantastic morning, and we met 15-20 potential applicants. We will definitely support other future events with Job Centre Plus and West Lancashire Borough Council.”
Councillor Ian Moran, Leader of West Lancashire Borough Council and portfolio holder for Regeneration, said: “I am delighted this event was such a success and we have been able to help such a large number of people looking for work find possible employment opportunities.”
Amanda Jakeman, Department of work and Pensions Employer and Partnership Manager, said: “This was great morning bringing local employers together with local job seekers and meeting the needs of both, with 136 claimants possibly moving into employment over the next few weeks.”
The Council and Job Centre Plus regularly work in partnership to help local jobseekers. A previous collaborative project saw 50 claimants supported on a one-to-one basis to help them move closer to being ready to apply for jobs. They were given advice on training, work experience and volunteering opportunities.
