Give an older person a silver service welcome on Sunday 4 October.
Silver Sunday is an annual day of free fun and free activities for older people across the UK.
Led by The Sir Simon Milton Foundation, Silver Sunday celebrates the value and knowledge that older people bring to our communities. It aims to tackle the loneliness and isolation felt by many older people by providing social activities for older people so they can get out, try new things and meet new people.
Councillor Terry Aldridge, West Lancashire Borough Council Cabinet member with portfolio for Older People, is offering grants from his Older People’s Champion’s Fund to people who want to organise events for older people on this special day. Events that have been organised in the past include tea dances, ballet classes and world record attempts.
Councillor Aldridge said: “I’m keen to support older people in West Lancs and ensure that their voices are heard and their needs are met. Silver Sunday is a great event to promote opportunities for older people and I urge the community to get involved. I would encourage people to attend any events in their area.”
To apply for a grant please write to Councillor Terry Aldridge, Cabinet member with portfolio for Older People, West Lancashire Borough Council, 52 Derby Street, Ormskirk, L39 2DF. Or visit grants. The total budget available for small grant applications is £1,900.
