Major improvements will be made to Evenwood Court sheltered accommodation after plans to install a new lift and replace the kitchens and bathrooms were approved.
The new lift will ensure every home in the housing scheme is easily accessible. This will bring it up to the same standard as the Council’s other category two sheltered schemes, as Marlborough Court is also set to have a new lift.
West Lancashire Borough Council’s Cabinet agreed the improvement package for Evenwood Court, which will see the existing lift carriage replaced as well as a new lift installed.
Plans to put in new kitchens and bathrooms in every apartment at Evenwood Court had been planned for the next couple of years. However, these have now been brought forward to coincide with the works for the lifts. The new bathrooms will feature low level showers which will replace the existing baths.
Councillor Jennifer Patterson, portfolio holder for Housing, said: “These improvements are great news for residents at Evenwood Court and will help make the sheltered scheme an even better for people place to live.”
Evenwood Court residents have been consulted on the proposals. Council officers are also planning to work with the residents to encourage social activities after people living at Evenwood Court said they would like to see more trips and events, similar to those that take place at other sheltered accommodation.
