Children can enjoy colourful free half term fun at the Chapel Gallery in Ormskirk and the Sandy Lane Centre in Skelmersdale.
Families with young children can enjoy exciting creative activities at workshops based on the theme of storybooks at the Chapel Gallery on Tuesday 31 May between 10.30am and 12.30pm and 1.30pm-3.30pm. The workshop is free but places must be booked in advance with the Gallery as the sessions can get booked up quickly.
On Wednesday 1 June children can join in the free Colourful Character workshop taking place at Sandy Lane centre unit 63 from 10.30am-12.30pm. Here they can experience the amazing world of artist Matt Roby and create some exciting characters of their own. They can also meet Matt and see his exhibition at the centre’s unit 116 on the same day. Free sessions with Matt also take place on Friday 3 and Saturday 4 June at Chapel Gallery in Ormskirk 10.30am-12.30pm.
All of the Colourful Character sessions are for children aged 8-11. Children can be left unaccompanied providing the booking form and consent form has been completed. Councillor Yvonne Gagen, portfolio holder for Leisure, said: “Sessions organised by the Council’s Arts Development Service at Chapel Gallery and Sandy Lane Centre will be a really enjoyable way for children to spend some time during their half term holiday so parents should make sure they book places for their children quickly.”
The wonderful exhibition called Pirates, Pants and Wellyphants, The Illustrated World of Nick Sharratt will still be open at the Chapel Gallery so come along and have a go at some of the activities on offer as part of the exhibition. Lots of fun for all ages. Gallery opening times are Tuesday-Saturday 10am-4.30pm.
For children who enjoy creative activities, Chapel Gallery are offering a free taster session for the Saturday art club at any one of the remaining sessions this term. The club has separate sessions for 8-13-year-olds and 13–18-year-olds and children have the opportunity to work towards achieving Arts Awards. Please contact the Gallery for more information.
There is also a new art club starting at Sandy Lane Centre for young people aged 8-11 between 1.30pm–3.30pm on alternate Saturdays. Cost is £5 per session and the next session is Saturday 28 May. Booking, registration forms and payment need to be completed beforehand. Payment by cash can be made at Unit 116 Tuesday to Thursday 11am-4pm or by card over the phone to Chapel Gallery 01695 571328. There no free taster sessions for this club.
