Halloween will be a scream at Coronation Park, Ormskirk, and many other exciting free events are planned by West Lancashire Borough Council’s Parks and Countryside Ranger Service in October.
West Lancashire Borough Council Rangers’ free events for the month start on Saturday 1 October local expert in fungi and foraging David Winnard and a Ranger will lead a Fungal Foray around Coronation Park, Ormskirk. They will search for amazing species of fungi and plants, and hunting for some wild edibles as well as looking out for the things to avoid! Please meet at the park’s bowling pavilion at 1.50pm for a 2pm start.
Take part in the extended health walk on Monday 3 October and enjoy a four-six mile jaunt taking in Cheshire Lines cycle path and surrounding scenic countryside. No booking required - just turn up at Lydiate Station, Station Road at 9.50am for a 10am start.
The 12-mile Burscough Wetlands Walk on Sunday 16 October will be another fun ramble. Please meet at Platts Lane Lake car park at 9.50am for a 10am start.
Just before Halloween people can enjoy carving scary pumpkins at Stanley Coronation Park on Saturday 29 October at 10am. Pumpkin carving sessions are also planned for Richmond Park, Burscough, on Saturday 29 October, at 2pm and Coronation Park, Ormskirk at 2pm on Sunday 30 October. Make sure you don’t miss the thrilling free Halloween extravaganza at Coronation Park, Ormskirk between 6pm and 8pm on Monday 31 October. There are plenty of scary goings on planned, including scary walks through the woods with vampires and ghosts. There will be a spooky costumes competition, and Base Dance will perform some spooky dances to entertain you all.
The pumpkins from the carving sessions will be dotted around Coronation Park, Ormskirk, on Halloween night and the best three will be given a prize that night.
Councillor Yvonne Gagen, portfolio holder for Leisure, said: “Come along to Coronation Park, Ormskirk for an evening of fantastic frights and stupendous screams on Halloween night. There are plenty of other great free events in our parks this month, so make sure you don’t miss all the fun.”
Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all events. Please wear suitable footwear and clothing for the weather and ground conditions.
