You can help create beautiful mosaics and strange garden beasties in a great line-up of free creative workshops and drop in sessions at the Tree House in Skelmersdale this summer.
The programme includes the chance to work with professional artists developing permanent artwork to help make the Sandy Lane Centre, which is home to the Tree House, even more attractive and welcoming to visitors.
An exhibition called ‘A Marvellous Menagerie’ showcasing Matt Roby’s fantastic creatures will also be on display at the Tree House and unit 126 at Sandy Lane from Tuesday 18 July – Saturday 16 September.
The programme is being planned by the Friends of Sandy Lane Community Interest Company in partnership with West Lancashire Borough Council.
Councillor Yvonne Gagen, portfolio holder for Leisure, said: “These are really exciting arts events and you could see your work on permanent display at the centre. So make sure you don’t miss out on this great opportunity by signing up for a workshop.”
The creative fun begins on Tuesday 1 August and Wednesday 2 August when you can work with Matt Roby and discover and create strange garden beasties and flower faerie folk! If you join the workshops you can work with Matt to make card art creatures between 11am-1pm and plasticine beasts between 2-4pm which will animate the covered walkway at Sandy Lane. The activities are free but places have to be booked in advance.
Further activities with artist Bernadette Hughes take place between 16-19 August and you can work with her to create marvellous mosaics which will help cover one of the centre’s stairwells in a permanent display.
Family workshops (children must be aged five and over) are on Wednesday 16 and Friday 18 August between 11am – 1pm. Adult only sessions are on Thursday 17 and Saturday 19 between 11am – 1pm. To book a free session and find out more about what’s happening at Sandy Lane contact Tree House Gallery on 07860 617 353.
Drop in sessions for the family with Bernadette Hughes, which will also be contributing to the mosaics take place on Wednesday 16, 17, 18 and 19 August from 2pm–4pm. There is no need to book in advance for these.
