Exciting times at the Tree House in Skelmersdale

Fun events for people of all ages are just some of the great things happening at the Tree House Gallery, gift shop and Café at the Sandy Lane Centre in Skelmersdale.

Children can make and paint their own Easter decoration, using dough and flour (gluten free), led by professional artist Gaenor Hall on Wednesday 5 April between 10.30am and 1.30pm, and Wednesday 12 April between 12.30pm and 3.30pm.

The range of makers selling unique handmade goods is increasing as the centre goes from strength to strength and there are still plenty of opportunities as the first floor is being developed. People who make and sell goods including clothes for all ages, accessories, gifts, candles, cards and soaps can take a space in the gallery from only £5 a month. This is great opportunity for makers to promote what they do, their Etsy shop and take commissions.

The development of the first floor will also provide the ideal opportunity for local groups looking to exhibit their work

An exciting free programme of activities is being introduced from April at the Tree House Gallery, gift shop and Café, to learn a new skill or get active in this great venue. Crochet drop in sessions will take place every Wednesday from 19 April at 11am – 12pm. People can share experiences and skills, and there will be someone to guide beginners through getting started.

For those who enjoy board games to help to keep the brain ticking over, Friday is perfect for a visit with special free games activities between 1pm and 4pm, including chess, scrabble, dominos or draughts, starting from Friday 21 April.

Anyone aged 18 plus who fancies learning to paint can sign up for a free six-week block of sessions with a professional tutor. The course will start in May, and sessions are from 10.30am-12.30pm and 1am–2.30pm. Places are limited and must be booked in advance. Contact the Tree House on 07860 617353 for more information.

Dave Tilleray, West Lancashire Borough Council Director of Leisure and Wellbeing, said: “These are exciting times for the Tree House Gallery, gift shop and Café so come along and see what is on offer.”

The Tree House Gallery, gifts and café is a community venture run by the Friends of Sandy Lane and supported by West Lancashire Borough Council Arts Development services. If you would like to get involved with community developments there are still opportunities for volunteers at the Tree House, including shifts in the café where full training will be given. The Friends of Sandy Lane group will always welcome new members looking to get involved with future developments at Sandy Lane.
