Tenants are invited to come along to the great bulb giveaway on Thursday 20 November
Tenants of West Lancashire Borough Council can get some free bulbs to brighten up their gardens next springtime.
The Council’s Environmental Improvement Group, which is led by tenants, is giving away 100 packs of spring bulbs at the Concourse Shopping Centre in Skelmersdale on Thursday 20 November, between midday and 4pm.
Each pack will contain 30 bulbs which will consist of 10 dwarf daffodils, 10 red tulips and 10 yellow crocuses and there will also be a set of basic instructions.
This is the first time the Environmental Improvement Group has organised this type of giveaway and members are using this to find how much demand there is for this type of offer.
For more information please go to events or Environmental improvement group.
Funding for the bulb packs has come from the Council’s Environmental Improvement Fund.
Hazel Scully, from the Environmental Improvement Group, said: “Our aim is help people to brighten up their gardens next spring and enjoy gardening. If this project is successful, we would like to distribute summer bulbs next year and roll out more ideas to encourage people to get into gardening and to look at their local area for environmental improvements.”
Group members will be in the kiosk outside Farm Foods at the Concourse Shopping Centre and the packs will be distributed on a first come, first served basis, with one pack per household, until they have all gone. All tenants have to do is bring their rent card number to collect their free bulb pack.
Councillor Jane Houlgrave, portfolio holder for Housing, said: “This sounds like a really good scheme to help some tenants brighten up their gardens and I wish the Environmental Improvement Group the best of luck with this great bulb giveaway.”
