Give your views on key documents for Skelmersdale sites

West Lancashire Borough Council wants to hear your views on important planning documents regarding three sites in Skelmersdale.

West Lancashire Borough Council is undertaking a public consultation on draft Local Development Orders (LDOs) for Findon; the site of the former Skelmersdale Sports Centre, off Daniels Lane in Digmoor; and Delf Clough.

The proposed Local Development Orders (LDOs) will simplify planning arrangements by granting permitted development rights associated with the delivery of residential development on the sites. This will encourage the building of homes on these sites by making the planning process for these three sites more flexible and streamlined, helping to reduce costs and timescales and enable construction to start quickly.

These arrangements will mean that developers, within certain guidelines, can erect housing without requiring planning permission.   The guidelines, detailing what will be permitted, will be set out within the draft LDOs, the Statement of Reasons and the Design Code. Comments on these documents are invited during the consultation period, which runs from 19 November 2015 until 4 January 2016.

Councillor John Hodson, portfolio holder for Planning, said: “These Local Development Orders will help smooth the pathway for developers to build homes in Skelmersdale. In the long run this will benefit local people as it will help provide much-needed new housing in the area.”

Copies of the documents will be available to view at the Borough Council offices at 52 Derby Street, Ormskirk, and at the Customer Service Point, Skelmersdale, on Mondays to Fridays 9am to 5pm (4.45pm Fridays), and at public libraries across the Borough during their normal opening hours. Paper copies of the Local Development Orders and associated documents can be purchased from the Council for a charge.

Any amendments to the LDOs to reflect comments made during the consultation will be made before the formal adoption of the LDOs in March 2016.

A link will be created to LDO from Thursday 19 November where you can submit comments, or you can email from that date to localplan@westlancs.gov.uk from that date or you can send your comments in writing to: The Strategic Planning and Implementation Team, West Lancashire Borough Council, 52 Derby Street, Ormskirk, L39 2DF.
