Have a great time at the Ormskirk Christmas lights' switch on

Christmas will come alive in Ormskirk town centre on Friday 27 November as we celebrate the start of the festive season with lots of exciting fun at the annual Christmas Lights’ Switch-On’ event.

From 4.30pm Children’s favourite characters Mickey Mouse, Peppa Pig, Sponge Bob, Olaf from Frozen and Red Power Ranger will be in town meeting and greeting everyone.

Provided by the local Rotary Club Santa will be in his special grotto from approximately 4.30pm anxiously waiting to hear children’s Christmas presents lists.

Entertainment will be on and around the main stage area with family entertainer ‘Fun Steve’ from 4.45pm to 5.15pm, followed by the ‘Ormskirk Rock Choir’ whose performance last year left the crowd wanting more. They will be performing popular numbers such as Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen, Hold My Hand by Jess Glynne and Christmas favourite Merry Christmas by Shakin’ Stevens.

The amazing compare Andy Jay will continue with the party atmosphere on stage and introduce singing duo Jingle Belles, who will perform songs from the film Frozen and other songs from fairy tales.

 During this time invited dignitaries and fellow guests will assemble at Ormskirk Parish Church. The procession will be led to the sounds of the Piper towards the main arena in readiness for the Carol Ceremony at 6pm.

Local Clergy will conduct the Carol Ceremony ably assisted by Skelmersdale Prize Brass Band and Friends in Unison Choir.

The Mayor of West Lancashire Councillor Nikki Hennessy will give a Christmas address as part of the ceremony and will then be joined by special guest/s ready to pull the switch.

The countdown will begin led by West Lancashire Town Crier, Don Evans, and at 6.30pm Ormskirk will be festooned with Christmas sparkle as the lights are switched on. Jingle Belles will then perform the stage finale as they sing a medley of Christmas favourites for people to sing along to. 

If you’re looking for that special gift the outdoor Christmas fair marquee will be open from 12 noon until 8pm, and complements the Chapel Gallery Craft Fair which will have more than 40 stalls exhibiting and selling a superb array of handmade and artisan gifts. there will be plenty of fun and games for younger visitors to enjoy, as well as mulled wine and music for the grown-ups.

There will be a variety of food and drink vendors in the marquee and around the town to whet your appetite.

To keep the children amused Silcock’s amusements will be providing kiddie rides throughout the day into the evening.

The Gallery Craft fair is also open from 10am until 4pm. on Saturday 28 November and Sunday 29 November.  Father Christmas will be visiting from 11am on Sunday 29.
