New park area in Ormskirk and play area in Burscough
West Lancashire Borough Council is planning improvements for an area of public open space near Ormskirk Railway Station, and play facilities at Hesketh Avenue, Burscough.
Funding has been approved by the Council’s Cabinet to upgrade land at Station Approach in Ormskirk. The works will involve the construction of new pathways, installation of park furniture including benches and picnic tables, public artwork and other improvements such as thinning out of trees and clearing vegetation. The scheme will cost in the region of £45,000.
Cabinet also approved funding for works on the multi use games area at Hesketh Avenue, Burscough. The scheme, costing in the region of £40,000, will include new and improved recreational equipment together with new seating and boundary fencing.
Funding for these schemes has been raised by the Council through developer contributions from nearby housing development sites.
Councillor Yvonne Gagen, portfolio holder for Leisure, said: “I am delighted funding for these schemes has been approved. The project for Station Approach will improve the area and make it attractive for families to visit, while the improvements to the multi use games area will make it an even better facility for local people.”
Councillor John Hodson, portfolio holder for Planning, said: “I am very pleased that the money we have been able to get through planning agreements with developers will be used to benefit the community.”
