Come and see the King of Cats exhibition at the Chapel Gallery
Meet Boggarts, Haunted Hares, and Talking Cats, and be immersed in windswept moorland, snow-capped hills and icy streams at the new King of Cats Exhibition at Ormskirk’s Chapel Gallery.
Visual artists Julie Miles, Christopher Rainham, Patricia Ramsden and Marjan Wouda, respond to old Lancashire folk tales and their contemporary retelling by acclaimed writer and storyteller Jackie Harris. Together they produce a stunning exhibition of engaging artworks, deeply rooted in the local environment.
The King of the Cats is a touring show supported by the Arts Council England and will be at the West Lancashire Borough Council-run Chapel Gallery from Saturday 19 September to Saturday 24 October 2015.
Everyone is invited to a special opening event for the exhibition at the West Lancashire Borough Council-run gallery on Saturday 19 September between 11am – 4pm. No need to book in advance, just drop in. You can be among the first to see the new exhibition, learn about Lancashire folk tales and fables and enjoy the free creative activities for families. There’s also an opportunity to meet artist Christopher Rainham.
A new showcase featuring the work of St Helens analogue photographer Alan Smith will be at the Gallery from Wednesday 16 September to Saturday 17 October 2015.
Alan will not only be exhibiting a collection of his atmospheric analogue photography, but he’ll be including a selection of analogue cameras and information relating to age old photographic techniques.
Alan’s photography has a timeless, otherworldly feel. He preserves the qualities of negative film and analogue cameras that require patience, concentration and instant reactions. His practice preserves the skills and techniques associated with wet print process photography, where the making of an image is a painstaking, but ultimately rewarding, ritual.
