Residents can still sign up for the chargeable garden waste collection service

West Lancashire residents are reminded that if they want the Council to collect their garden waste, they still have the chance to sign up for the new chargeable collection service.

The new chargeable service began on 5 June 2017 and residents who have signed up and paid have either received or will soon receive an information pack with a sticker for each green bin they subscribe for.

Householders who have received their sticker must remember to put it onto the back of the green bin, in accordance with the instructions provided, ensuring it is clearly visible to the collectors.

Those who have subscribed for more than one garden waste bin to be collected by the Council, must ensure they put stickers on all the bins they have paid for. Green bins without stickers will not be emptied and labelled with an information notice. Residents who have not subscribed to the chargeable collection service should not present their garden waste bin for collection.

It is not too late to sign up and residents can do so online with a credit or debit card at garden waste collections

Further information about the service and costs can also be found at garden waste collections or in the leaflet already delivered to all householders.

If residents are having difficulty paying the garden waste charge by credit or debit card they may wish to ask a family member to assist them. Alternatively residents can talk to Customer Services to seek further advice and assistance on how to make a payment.

Councillor Kevin Wilkie, portfolio holder for Street Scene Services, said: “The overall response to the launch of this valuable service has been really positive with a large number of people living in West Lancashire already signed up. Residents can still sign up, and the quickest way to do this is online, at www.westlancs.gov.uk/gardenwaste where you can also find details of charges.”

Residents who do not want to use the collection service can still do their bit to protect the environment by taking garden waste to a household waste recycling centre, or alternatively compost it.
