Apply now for a Silver Sunday grant and provide some fun for older people

People in West Lancashire are being encouraged to give an older person a silver service welcome on Sunday 2 October.

Silver Sunday is an annual day of free fun and free activities for older people across the UK.

Led by The Sir Simon Milton Foundation, Silver Sunday celebrates the value and knowledge that older people bring to our communities. It aims to tackle the loneliness and isolation felt by many older people by providing social activities for older people so they can get out, try new things and meet new people.

Councillor Terry Aldridge is West Lancashire Borough Council Cabinet member with the portfolio for Older People and is also Lancashire County Council Older People’s Champion. He is offering grants from his Lancashire County Council’s Older People’s Champion’s Fund to organisations and individuals who want to arrange activities for older people on this special day. Events that have been organised in the past include tea dances, ballet classes and world record attempts.

Councillor Aldridge said: “I want to support older people in West Lancs and ensure that their voices are heard and their needs are met. Silver Sunday is a great event to promote opportunities for older people and I urge the community to get involved. I would encourage people to attend any events in their area, or consider organising their own event to make older people feel welcome in their community.”

To apply for a grant please write to County Councillor Terry Aldridge at terry.aldridge@lancashire.gov.uk or c/o Democratic Services, County Hall, Preston, PR1 8XJ. Further information about the County Council's Champion's Fund can be obtained from Janet Nuttall on 01772 533110.
