Get hands on with art at the Animotion Exhibition
Visitors to Ormskirk’s Chapel Gallery are being invited to meet legendary children’s TV character Morph and get hands-on with artworks in ‘AniMotion’, a specially-commissioned exhibition inspired by animation techniques.
People coming to the exhibition will enter a magical world created especially for them by some of the UK’s most imaginative artists and animators.
Visitors can watch as their faces come to life as on-screen winged creatures. They can try out an Occulus Rift headset and transform the features of a huge Day of the Dead inflatable skull and watch its hypnotic animated eyes.
Morph will be at the gallery for visitors to see. A celebrated early star of Aardman Animations, Morph has regularly appeared on children’s television programmes for nearly 40 years.
Exhibition visitors can experiment with a range of animation techniques, inspired by exhibits from international animators including the world-famous Aardman studios, creators of other characters such as Wallace and Gromit.
AniMotion opens on Saturday 17 September when all are invited to enjoy a day of family fun. At the opening, young people who participated in a series of animation based workshops at the Chapel Gallery will get to see the work they inspired unveiled to the public. AniMotion runs until Saturday 12 November 2016.
Councillor Yvonne Gagen, portfolio holder for Leisure, said: “This exhibition sounds like a lot of fun so bring the family to the gallery to join in the excitement.”
The exhibition features several animation techniques, from stop motion through to CGI. Several commissioned artists have produced work which illustrates these techniques and all have been designed to be enjoyably interactive.
Free workshops focusing on animation and illustration techniques will coincide with this exhibition. Your Family Flipbook on Saturday 1 October will give families with young children the chance to create their own family flipbook and bring characters to life, and sessions are between 10.30am and 12.30pm and 1.30pm and 3.30pm. There is no need to book and families can come to either or both sessions.
