Launch of the Skelmersdale Place brand
Businesses are being urged to step forward and become ambassadors to help show the world everything Skelmersdale is rightly proud of.
West Lancashire Borough Council has worked to create a brand for Skelmersdale with consultants Thinkingplace and Place Board partners Hotter Shoes, the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), West Lancashire College, Edge Hill University and Fairbanks Environmental Ltd.
More than 40 businesses and organisations attended the launch at West Lancashire College on the 21 September and everyone was extremely impressed with the new brand and shared enthusiasm to raise Skelmersdale’s profile.
The Skelmersdale Story was launched at the event, showcasing the many aspects that Skelmersdale can be proud of. It projects what the place is about, what it stands for and what matters.
The storybook highlights how Skelmersdale is home to bases for many big businesses including Pepsico, Hotter Shoes and Procter and Gamble, as well as smaller companies and entrepreneurs. Its location next to motorway connections and close to the cities of Preston, Liverpool and Manchester means Skelmersdale is ideally placed to work with the three Local Enterprise Partnerships and take advantage of opportunities such as Liverpool Superport.
A major priority listed in the storybook is the importance of aligning business requirements with education establishments Edge Hill University and West Lancashire College. These will play a key role developing the local economy by providing the workforce of tomorrow.
Skelmersdale’s special living environment, where beautiful countryside such as Beacon Country Park meet urban green space such as Tawd Valley Park, is also highlighted.
The launch provided information about the Skelmersdale Ambassadors scheme. This aims to unite businesses, organisations and individuals across the area in a powerful network to help develop and raise Skelmersdale’s profile.
Ambassadors will be the first to know about exciting opportunities and developments and will have access to the new Skelmersdale storybook, artwork, images and many other marketing materials. To find out more email email@example.com or call 01695 712692.
Councillor Ian Moran, Leader of West Lancashire Borough Council and portfolio holder for Economic Regeneration, said: “We want to show the world what a great place Skelmersdale is to live, work and do business. A key Council priority is to be ambitious for our economy by growing jobs and encouraging business and wealth. Creating the Skelmersdale brand will help achieve that and I would urge local firms to sign up and become ambassadors for our town.”
Tony Rankin, Hotter Shoes Learning and Development Manager, said: “We are delighted to be part of the Place Board to help create a brand to showcase all that Skelmersdale has to offer. We are truly proud of our local and hardworking staff who are key to our success. It is vital that we work with fellow local organisations and the Council to help promote Skelmersdale. This will enable us to offer the best opportunities for all the local residents and businesses, regardless of size, and to ensure we can attract the top talent here. We would urge any interested parties to join us as Skelmersdale Ambassadors to help promote Skelmersdale and attract the business, jobs and wealth that the people deserve.”
