You can help create Wishing Wings for Digmoor Parade

Come and enjoy a free family fun day at Evermoor Hub on Tuesday 15 August and give your views on what improvements can be made at Digmoor Parade.

West Lancashire Borough Council’s Arts Development Service has organised a fun packed day between 10am and 4pm with exciting games and creative activities. There will also be music, a face painter and bouncy castle.

Professional storyteller Izzie Major will also help entertain the crowds with her tales that are guaranteed to make you laugh and cry.

While there will be plenty of fun and games for people to enjoy, the main focus of this event to consult with the local community on how the West Lancashire Borough Council-owned Digmoor Parade could be improved. Ideas could include new artwork and plants to brighten up the shopping area.

Councillor Yvonne Gagen, portfolio holder for Leisure, said: “The Council really wants to hear from local people about ideas for how the parade can be improved.

“We have been working on another project with local people at Sandy Lane Shopping Centre which has proved very popular. New artwork and lighting has been installed, and we want to hear from people in Digmoor to get similar ideas to brighten up the parade.”

Ideas given on the day will help create a temporary piece of art called Wishing Wings that artist Sarah Jane Richards will work on with visits to the family fun day. Suggestions made by local people will be attached to feathers on the artwork.

People are invited back to the Evermoor Hub on Wednesday 23 August between 10am and 3.30pm to help Sarah complete the Wishing Wings artwork.

Councillor Ian Moran, Leader of West Lancashire Borough Council and portfolio holder for Economic Regeneration, said: “This is a great opportunity to have your say on how you think Digmoor Parade could be improved. The results from this consultation will be used to try and bring in grant funding for improvements.”

People interested in getting involved in any plans for the parade can contact Helen Juste, Arts Development Manager at the Council, on 01695 571328 or email helen.juste@westlancs.gov.uk.
