New Heritage Teacher Resource Pack
“A fun and cross
curricular learning tool that will help pupils
to connect with their
‘real’ local environment through games, activities, photographs,
maps and handling materials.”
...that’s how a local teacher described the
new teacher resource pack now available from our
heritage team.
The pack has been produced to assist teachers
with introducing local heritage to their classes. The pack contains
a wide assortment of teaching aids that can be used in a variety of
situations; both in and out of the classroom, and with ideas
for working alone or in groups. It also includes worksheets,
supporting games, a handling collection and loads of information
and ideas for projects that will make learning about local heritage
fun.
Lesson plans are not provided as they are best
developed by teachers knowing the circumstances, needs and
capabilities of particular classes they teach. But an introduction
is available for each section that details curriculum links at
Key Stages 1 and 2. In addition, elements of the pack can be
customised to serve individual needs and personal preference and a
CD provides electronic sources.
The pack was developed with help from local
schools and one class that recently tried it out said, "Well
done on creating such an interesting, detailed, useful and
enjoyable resource for schools."
This is likely to a popular Council service
and there is only one resource box - so let your staff know that
this important tool is now available, and make sure they don’t miss
out!
As far as possible the Council will provide a
pick up and drop off service for schools and all teachers will be
given a quick introduction to the pack to enable them to get
started immediately.
To book the pack or if you require any further
information please call Cy Griffiths, the Conservation Officer, on
