Current development plan for West Lancashire

The following documents make up the 'development plan' for this area i.e. these are the main documents we look at when considering planning applications:

• West Lancashire Replacement Local Plan (2006) - this is the current adopted local plan for the borough.
• Supplementary planning guidance notes and documents (or SPG/SPDs) - these provide extra detail on certain matters e.g design.
• Interim housing policy - this does not have the same status as the Local Plan or SPG/SPDs, but is an important consideration for proposals for housing.

The Regional Spatial Strategy no longer forms part of the development plan.

Local Development Framework

• Local Development Framework (LDF) - the LDF is a set of documents we are working on, which will eventually replace the Local Plan.

Latest planning policy news 

• Residential development policy - the Council adopted a new, less restrictive "Interim Housing Policy" on 21 July 2010.
• Housing Land Study ("call for sites") - following a recent call for sites, we are updating the housing land study to reflect the current situation.
• Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) for the North West (external link)
  The RSS was revoked by central government announced on 6 July 2010.
