Core Strategy Consultation
We started early consultation work on our
Core
Strategy in June 2008. For the time being, we will
combine this with consultation on our Site Allocations document.
Below is a summary of what we have done so far:
1. Local Strategic Partnership Annual
Conference
In June 2008, we ran workshops for members
of the Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) at their
annual conference. The aim of these workshops was to ensure
that:
- The Local Development Framework (LDF) takes careful
account of the LSP's Sustainable
Community Strategy
- The LDF can be delivered by key local partners
At the workshops, our goal was to identify the strengths,
weaknesses and most important issues in the district, and to
come up with a 'vision' of how we'd like the area to be in 15
years time. We also considered how much more development each
settlement might be able to take in the future.
2. 'Spatial Forums' (July 2008)
Following the LSP workshops, we held three public 'spatial
forums' at Tarleton, Skelmersdale and Ormskirk. The purpose of
these forums was to find out people's views on:
- What are the important issues for each area of the
district
- A 'vision' - how we would like the district to be in
the future
- How we might work towards achieving this vision.
Over 200 people attended the forums where we considered a
set of questions for each area, looking at issues such as housing,
transport, jobs, recreation, etc. We have recorded
and compiled the views that people expressed. These will
be used as we consider issues and options for the
district.
What happens next?
The spatial forums and LSP conference are the start of a
long process of consultation for the Core Strategy and Site
Allocations documents. There will be other opportunities for
people to put their views, concerns and ideas across, and we
anticipate consulting in various ways as we prepare early versions
of the above documents.

on this web page, as soon as details become available.
