The Local Plan 2001-2016
The West Lancashire Replacement Local Plan 2001-2016 was the adopted local plan for the area from 2006-2013.
However, this plan is now obsolete, its policies having been superseded by the West Lancashire Local Plan 2012-2027. There is one exception: Policy DE4 (Caravan Sites for Gypsies and Travelling Showpeople) of the Replacement Local Plan will remain in force until the forthcoming Provision for Travellers Sites Development Plan Document is adopted by the council, probably in 2015.

Saving the Replacement Plan's policies
The policies of the Replacement Plan were due to expire on 5 July 2009. In accordance with the 2004 Planning Act, we applied to the Secretary of State to save the majority of the Replacement Plan policies beyond this date.
The government confirmed that 47 of the plan's 49 policies should be saved. (The only policies not saved were DE17 - Tourism Development, and DE18 - Advertisements.)
Subsequent to the adoption of the West Lancashire Local Plan 2012-2027, 46 of the remaining 47 Replacement Local Plan policies have now been superseded. However, Policy DE4 (Caravan Sites for Gypsies and Travelling Showpeople) will continue to be saved and remain as part of the development plan for the borough until the forthcoming Provision for Travellers Sites Development Plan Document is adopted by the council.
The Interim Housing Policy (which relaxed Local Plan Policy DE1) was adopted in July 2010. It was a consideration when assessing planning applications for housing. It has now been superseded by the policies of the West Lancashire Local Plan 2012-2027.
