National and regional guidance
The Local Plan guides development in the local area and must be consistent with wider policies.
National Planning Policy
Central government planning policy is set out primarily in the National Planning Policy Framework. For more details, please visit the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government website (external link).
Regional Plans
The Regional Spatial Strategy for the North West (RSS), adopted in 2008, covered the whole of North West England. It contained general planning policies and set West Lancashire's housing requirement. The RSS was revoked in spring 2013. It no longer forms part of the development plan and no longer has any legal weight.
