Open Space Study for West Lancashire
We appointed specialist sport and leisure consultants PMP in
June 2008 to undertake an assessment of open space, sport and
recreation facilities in the district.
The study will focus on how well the district's open
space is used, and its value to local people. It will
cover parks, gardens, woodlands and scrubland, green corridors,
allotments, outdoor sports facilities, children’s play areas,
amenity space within housing estates, and cemeteries,
churchyards and civic spaces.
The study will look at:
- demand for open space and recreational facilities;
- adequacy and quality of supply;
- new local standards for open space /recreational
facilities;
- which open spaces /facilities should be protected, enhanced or
relocated;
- a review and update of the district's playing pitch
strategy.
When the study is complete, its results will be used in
future reviews of our Recreation and Open Space Supplementary
Planning Document.
Consultation
PMP and the Council have been contacting local people, Parish
Councils, and other groups and organisations over the summer to ask
their views on existing facilities and their aspirations for the
future. We are also carrying out household and internet
surveys.
