Grey bag collections

Grey bag refuse collections for Skelmersdale
The grey bag refuse collection service has been specially designed for the areas of Skelmersdale where the design of houses and streets creates access problems.

We give every home three colour coded grey refuse bags every week, a green bag for garden waste, a blue bag for paper, a clear bag for textiles and a blue box for glass, all types of metal tins or cans and plastic bottles. We also collect cardboard.

Grey bag collections
We visit your home once a week to collect general household waste that can't be recycled, and we collect your recyclables every two weeks. So refuse is taken one week and refuse and recycling the next.

We will visit your house on the same day every week - even on bank holidays. The only time the collection will change is for the Christmas and New Year bank holidays, and we will tell you about rescheduled collections in December.

If you need a collection calendar please fill in a Refuse/Recycling Calendar online form and we will post one to you. If you don't know your collection day, please call Customer Services on 01695577177 or complete a Refuse/Recycling Enquiry online form giving your full address and query.

How to present your refuse and recycling
· Please put your bags and boxes out at the edge of your property or collection point by 7.00am on your collection day
· Please remember that we will only collect the colour coded grey bin bags that we give you - we will not take any other bin bags
· Please pack your refuse safely, wrap sharp items carefully so they don't split the bag or cause an injury to you or the collectors
· For more info about what can and can't be recycled see the Recycling page
· Please wash cans/tins and bottles/jars before putting them out. Cardboard can be bundled up and tied or placed under your blue box. Leave any extra recycling in open carrier bags
· If you have larger items that need to be removed you can request a bulky item collection

What to do if you have a problem
· If there is a problem with your refuse or recycling collection - like a missed collection or spillage - you can report it with the Refuse/Recycling Collection Problem online form
· If you need help presenting your bags and boxes on collection day you can complete the Refuse/Recycling Assistance online form
· If you think you need more grey bags, please check to make sure you are recycling as much as you can. If you complete the Refuse/Recycling Assistance online form we will visit your home, give advice and work out arrangements. We treat all requests individually.
