Home composting

Home compostingcompost bin

Home composting helps your garden, and the environment too! It’s one of the most environmentally friendly ways of recycling biodegradable waste that would normally be sent for landfill, and it even saves money on fertilizer.

With a home compost bin you could use material that is normally thrown away – raw fruit and vegetable scraps, garden waste, paper and cardboard – to make your very own compost. So it’s a great way to help reduce the amount of waste that you put into your bin

Get a free composting bin

Street Scene Services, as a member of the Lancashire Waste Partnership with the Recycle Now Home Composting Campaign, are offering free home composting kits, which comprise of a 220-litre compost converter with hatch and a kitchen caddy, to all West Lancs residents.

To order your free kit, call 0845 077 0757 (quoting reference ‘lake’) or order online at the Recycle Now website. Alteratively you can download the form below and order by post.

> Download the compost bin leaflet and order form

The composting bin is delivered direct to your doorstep, along with a small kitchen bin for collecting raw fruit and vegetable scraps and a leaflet containing all the information you need to get composting.
