The Ormskirk MotorFest returns on Sunday 26 August and organisers are looking for volunteer marshals to join in the fun and help make this wonderful event go smoothly.
Thousands of people are expected to enjoy the free motoring extravaganza, which is one of the North-West’s biggest free family events.
More than 300 classic and competition vehicles from all eras of motoring will be on display in Coronation Park and Ormskirk town centre streets.
Organisers are looking for volunteer marshals to help with the parade laps which are due to take place in the afternoon, so are required from 12.30pm.
The Ormskirk MotorFest is a free event organised by Aintree Circuit Club, supported by West Lancashire Borough Council.
Councillor John Hodson, portfolio holder for Planning, said: “Volunteer marshals play a key role in making the Ormskirk MotorFest memorable for everyone, and have a lot of fun at the event.”
Mike Ashcroft, Aintree Circuit Club Chairman, said: “Volunteering to be a marshal is a great way to become involved in the MotorFest. So please sign up as soon as you can to become part of the team making this fantastic event a reality.”
Marshals will be on duty to assist vehicles to get out onto the parade route and to be positioned at locations around the course to ensure the cavalcade goes smoothly.
For the parades, marshals will need to report to the marshals’ centre by 12.30pm as they will need to register first and attend a marshals’ briefing before going out on post for 2pm and finishing around 5pm.
To volunteer to be a marshal, please visit Ormskirk MotorFest (external link) by 20 August. The online registration form that people need to complete is in the registrations section of the website. Marshals attending will receive an expenses payment of £5 towards travel and refreshments will be provided. You must be signed on by 12.30pm.
The website Ormskirk MotorFest (external link) has a lot of other information about this fantastic occasion. Owners of competition cars can still enter their vehicles for their general MotorFest event by emailing Mike Ashcroft at firstname.lastname@example.org. If they have a particularly high-quality vehicle they can put that forward in advance for the MotorFest's Concours de Elegance competition, which forms part of the event and takes place on the same day, through Ormskirk MotorFest (external link).
The Ormskirk MotorFest is in line with the Ormskirk Town Centre Strategy, one of the aims of which is to have more events in Ormskirk town centre.
Councillor Hodson said: “With many thousands of visitors expected to come to Ormskirk for the MotorFest, we hope that Town Centre businesses will take advantage of this great opportunity and open up on MotorFest day.”
