It's important to protect our homes this winter
With the challenges that coronavirus brings, it's easy forget about other things that may also cause problems in our communities.
Potential poor weather during the winter months can bring problems with flooding, and we are all responsible for protecting our home, whether we own or rent it.
The Council's flood awareness webpage www.westlancs.gov.uk/flooding can help us decide if we should take steps to protect our property, where we can get help with flood prevention equipment and what to do if flooding occurs.
The North West Regional Flood and Coastal Committee also provides really useful information on their flood hub, which can be accessed https://thefloodhub.co.uk/.
Councillor Kevin Wright, portfolio holder for Emergency Planning, Preparation and Implementation, said: "It's important that we all make sure our homes are protected against flooding, and there is plenty of helpful information online to help us do that."
If there is severe weather in West Lancashire we will be using our website www.westlancs.gov.uk/winter and social media to tell everyone if our services are affected. Follow @WestlancsBC on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
The ‘blue light’ Emergency Services also use social media, and www.westlancs.gov.uk/winter can be used to find information on Lancashire County Council services such as highways, gritting and school closures.
