Step back in time and find out what life was like in West Lancashire 900 years ago by coming along to the marvellous Ormskirk Medieval Festival at Coronation Park.
The fabulous two-day extravaganza on Saturday 12 May and Sunday 13 May is free of charge and will give visitors the chance to experience the sights, smells, sounds and tastes of both Norman England, and the exotic Byzantine Empire as two armies clash!
West Lancashire Borough Council Parks and Countryside Service has organised the fantastic free event where 12th Century re-enactment group Historia Normannis will take you on a journey through time.
Over the weekend the park in Ormskirk will come alive with fabulous medieval-themed activities, entertainment and displays for people of all ages to enjoy between 11am and 4pm on both days. Similar events held in previous years were hugely successful with thousands of people attending.
Councillor Yvonne Gagen, portfolio holder for Leisure, said: “Once again some wonderful displays and activities have been lined up which will make the Ormskirk Medieval Festival a great treat for all the family. So make sure you come and enjoy this fantastic event.”
Members of Historia Normannis will do battle in exciting combat displays and tournaments, bringing the exciting events of the Fourth Crusade to life.
Visitors can try on the armour, take a closer look at the weapons and how they’re made or even try their hand at Archery.
Everyday life in the 12th Century will be featured with medieval cooking demonstrations and a fashion show to talk about the different styles of dress of the times. There will also be displays of medieval craft and several other medieval-themed activities and stalls are being planned for the day.
Hungry visitors will be able to enjoy a range of refreshments. There will also be donkey rides, face painting, children’s rides, and a giant bouncy castle.
