Message from Councillor Ian Moran, the Leader of West Lancashire Borough Council

We know that you, our residents and business owners, are concerned about the impact of Coronavirus and what it could mean over the coming weeks.

Our response to Covid-19 is supported by robust business continuity plans, good working partnerships and the community and neighbourhood spirit of our Borough.

As your Council we wanted to share with you the steps we are taking and what you can do to help to support our economy and local communities.

What we are doing

We are working closely with our partners within the Lancashire Resilience Forum which includes Lancashire Police and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service to provide a county wide response.

We will continue to maintain all our essential services such as waste collection, environmental protection, emergency housing repairs and the HomeCare Link service which helps support vulnerable residents to remain living independently at home.

We have increased our cleaning schedule across Council Offices and our Sheltered Housing Schemes and have implemented home working for Council staff where possible. We are also reviewing how Council, Planning and Licensing meetings will continue and in what format to ensure important Council business and decision making continues.

We have taken the decision to cancel our engagement events.

We have a dedicated website page and will post messages on our social media channels to keep you informed on what is happening at a local level with reliable advice on staying safe and healthy.

We are building a dedicated website page to signpost business for further support and advice. If you are a business and are struggling in the situation please visit Coronavirus support for businesses.

We will continue to review and adapt to what is a fast and ever-changing situation and implement the guidance coming from Government.

How you can help us

Please continue to follow the advice by washing hands often, covering your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze and following NHS guidance on self-isolation (external link) if you or a family member has symptoms.

Please do not attend Council offices if you are feeling unwell. Residents who are online online can access services online at and residents that do not have online access can continue to call us on 01695 577177.

We would ask you to only purchase food, cleaning products and medicines that are needed for your family and please support each other looking out for vulnerable neighbours and continuing to donate to food banks who need support more than ever.
